About

Yinan Du is an animation director, artist, and educator. She makes work exploring obscure bodily existence, translating the untranslatable (national tension, marginalized communities, education system), and folklores. Her films have screened at film festivals and prestigious institutions globally, including Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Shanghai Pride Festival, Points Gallery, Kun Chef Gallery, among others. She is a Barbara Hammer Queer Grant Finalist. Her work has been recognized by press outlets such as VoyageLA.

Yinan draws from folklores, mythology, and historical remnants to craft narratives that rethink the past and construct analogies for the present. Her style is fierce, bodily, visceral, and inherently sabotaging—a practice of rupture that resists containment.

She holds an MFA in Experimental Animation from the California Institute of the Arts, and a BFA from Duke University. Outside of teaching and filmmaking, she also offers animation mentorship independently, makes commissions and graffiti.
